Theatre Presents: Aesop's Greatest Hits by Jason Cannon
The Cal Poly Humboldt Department of Dance, Music and Theatre presents “Aesop’s Greatest Hits”, a rollicking and rambunctious retelling of some of Aesop’s most popular fables. Aesop’s greatest hits will be touring around the county in April, performing for students at libraries and schools. Director Troy Lescher can’t wait for the tour to begin, “Our tour is pretty exciting—we'll be serving young audiences across five Humboldt County elementary schools as well as five Humboldt County libraries. The library shows have additional partnerships with the Humboldt Literacy Project and First 5 Humboldt.”
The performances begin Tuesday April 15th with a combined performance for Orick Elementary School & Big Lagoon Elementary School. The tour will also make stops at Trinidad Union School, and Morris Elementary School. On Saturday April 19th the cast and crew will make their way west on the 299 to perform at the Willow Creek Library and the Kim Yerton Memorial Library in Hoopa. Washington Elementary will have a performance as well as performances at the Fortuna Public Library and the Redwood Playhouse (in association with the Garberville Public Library.)
“Aesop’s Greatest Hits” will finish its run at Cal Poly Humboldt at the Gist Hall Theatre on May 3rd and 4th at 2pm. These performances will include full costumes, props, sets and lighting. Admission is Free for all.
Caleb McCarthy, assistant director and stage manager for the production, encourages people of all ages to come and enjoy the show, “It's a theater piece for everyone. I wouldn't consider it children's theater but family theater, it's really something anyone can enjoy. It's a work that's fun and entertaining and can bring you back to the storybooks you read as a kid. My interest in the performing arts started with seeing plays just like this when I was a kid. So it's really special to be a part of putting this on and inspiring a new generation of artists and storytellers.”
