Biography: 
Susan McMurray Abbey has been a lecturer for the Dept. of Theatre, Film, and Dance at HSU since 2007. Originating from Burley, Idaho, she has been a teacher and professor of theater for over 35 years in Idaho, Utah, and California. Beginning in musical theatre while doing summer stock in West Yellowstone, Montana, Susan spent the next 25 years directing high school, college, community, and semi-professional plays and musicals.
 
Her bridge to the film industry began while teaching several classes of Introduction to Film while earning her MFA at Brigham Young University. From there, she turned her stage acting skills to film acting. She has performed in films, TV, Industrial, and commercial projects--as well as print ad and voice over work in Salt Lake City and while here in Humboldt County.
Susan has raised two sons here in Humboldt. Besides teaching she enjoys performing in community theatre, walking, hiking, being with friends, adventures in big cities, the ocean, and finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.
